Episode 84

American Groove - #74 Stoned-Strained meditation

I found myself exploring the meditative world, by going to a Meet-up. With chairs outnumbering attendees. the scene was set for a session that would be anything but typical; Portuguese in this case. I counted chairs, and waited for the meditation to begin. I was amazed by the tranquility of the setting. Even the dog attending took to meditation, curling up for a cozy nap. Awesome experience that wasn't just about silence or the meditation practice itself. Rather about the unexpected joys and communal quirks. Making it memorable, and so worthwhile you want to do it again.

Diving deeper, we expand into cultural insights. Like the contrast between European land ownership norms. Also, with Native American communal land practices. Being blown away by the culture differences. We spice things up with some tea aboutReese Witherspoon's business savvy. And our personal movie favorites of course. Mixing meditation, and blending in pop culture with a cherry on top. This blend of meditation misadventures and cultural mind fucks offers a unique twist. On finding peace in modern bullshit... I mean media. Showcasing comedy woven through our attempts to connect, reflect and relax. Namastay, shalom, and may peace be with you.

I was kind of like I was telling her, she's from a month and a half out here, her name's Tess. And I was telling her that, you know, why don't we do like meditation?

00:11.69

lostinthegroove

But that's free. And we just like when I meet up. So that's basically like where we found this.

00:15.07

yes

Yeah.

00:16.55

lostinthegroove

But isn't that random? Like the whole week they speak Portuguese.

00:19.40

yes

Yeah.

00:20.15

lostinthegroove

And then on tonight, like on Tuesdays, they speak English.

00:20.44

yes

You told me that you counted the chairs.

00:24.28

lostinthegroove

There. It's like,

00:26.68

yes

yeah i you you told me that you counted the chairs

00:32.16

lostinthegroove

Yeah, I like it was so quiet in there and so awkward because we're like waiting for them to like, you know, like set up the mics in the music that I just like took out my calculator and I started literally counting how many chairs was in the room and there's 84 chairs and out of the 84 chairs, there's four people.

00:53.19

lostinthegroove

There's five.

00:53.32

yes

Whoa. Okay, so were you the sixth or were you the fifth person?

00:54.85

lostinthegroove

Yeah.

00:59.67

lostinthegroove

I was the sixth person.

01:01.61

yes

Yeah.

01:03.33

lostinthegroove

Technically, were there were seven, if you would include the fluffy dog.

01:07.08

yes

How long was your meditation session?

01:09.87

lostinthegroove

54 minutes.

01:11.67

yes

There was a fluffy dog.

01:13.32

lostinthegroove

There was a fluffy dog. Dog was very cute. Dog was very fluffy.

01:18.14

yes

So did the dog meditate?

01:20.19

lostinthegroove

Yeah, surprisingly, yes. It took a nap. It took a long nap.

01:27.13

yes

Was the dog like, did it belong to like the meditation instructor?

01:32.01

lostinthegroove

it belonged to somebody that was coming there and like everybody that was in the room like spoke Portuguese and this couple they have this like wild SUV that like has all of this like writing on there and then it has a picture of the dog on the rear door on the passenger side this is a picture of the dog like just vinyl and I was just like okay we really like this dog like really really like this dog

01:34.51

yes

yeah

02:00.69

lostinthegroove

yeah Like they literally brought it to a meditation session, you know Coming up.

02:04.03

yes

Yeah, that dog is like a big part of their lives.

02:08.33

lostinthegroove

Uh-huh.

02:08.51

yes

That's awesome.

02:08.86

lostinthegroove

It seems so like they probably have to like Bring more dogs next time I could play with that

02:10.58

yes

use

02:16.27

yes

we

02:19.08

yes

No, that sounds really cute. I mean, their dog is like super loved. That's really good. um You said you found the meditation on Meetup.

02:28.96

lostinthegroove

Well, my will test found that on meetup and ah ah it's kind of OK. So I remember when meetup was like cool. OK, there was like a time where like you use meetup to actually like find really awesome events these days.

02:44.11

yes

When was that?

02:46.46

lostinthegroove

Like:

02:59.79

lostinthegroove

I mean, like, real shady. All right? Like, it's to the point where...

03:07.28

lostinthegroove

You arrive at these places and you're like, damn. So it's just me and you? Yeah. In your mom's basement? Yeah.

03:17.68

yes

Oh

03:18.71

lostinthegroove

Yeah, like, this there are moments like that, you know?

03:20.96

yes

yeah you have to kind of like weed through them like you can't just go to like anything on meetup i I went on Meetup when I moved back to Des Moines to like find some stuff, and I found a meditation.

03:34.19

yes

um And what I do is like kind of look at like the past like times that the Meetup met and like see like what the turnout was like for that and you know like what that was like.

03:47.69

yes

And the one that I went to, there's a like a little lake here called Gray's Lake. And Gray's Lake.

03:56.28

lostinthegroove

So original. So original.

03:58.66

yes

I don't know. Is it? It's just like so cliche.

04:03.82

lostinthegroove

I mean, it's Grey's Lake.

04:04.10

yes

um

04:07.20

yes

Grey's Lake.

04:07.99

lostinthegroove

Grey's Lake.

04:08.09

yes

I have no idea. Grey's Lake. And so Grey's Lake, they do like a meditation.

04:11.98

lostinthegroove

Is there a hill?

04:14.50

yes

No, not really. um There's like a meditation that anybody can go to for free and they probably do it like every like I would think that's like June.

04:16.00

lostinthegroove

Just flat.

04:25.55

yes

um and they do meditation every month but they do meditation um only in Des Moines in June otherwise they're like way off in some like outside town that's like over an hour's drive from here so I was just like oh hell no so I go to their meditation in June um and it was really really good and she actually like leads a meditation like I went to a meditation.

04:57.05

lostinthegroove

It's guided. That's what we did tonight.

04:58.53

yes

Yeah, hers is guided.

04:58.77

lostinthegroove

it's it's a good

05:00.70

yes

The one that they do is guided. But yeah, I mean, I could go on forever.

05:04.84

lostinthegroove

It didn't really work. It didn't really work for me. um They're like, it's weird because like when they try to like unlock things, my brain is like, nope, nope, not going.

05:18.38

yes

Yeah, it's going to take a while. You have to let it happen.

05:20.07

lostinthegroove

Yeah, not going there.

05:22.84

yes

You have to let it happen. Yeah.

05:25.44

lostinthegroove

Yeah, you tell that to my brain.

05:28.52

yes

Do you remember in Fight Club?

05:32.16

lostinthegroove

Uh, I watched exactly like two minutes of fight club.

05:37.39

yes

Well, it's really good.

05:38.78

lostinthegroove

Yeah.

05:40.50

yes

It's a good book. Um.

05:42.02

lostinthegroove

It is a good book. I read partial parts of the book.

05:44.22

yes

and

05:44.51

lostinthegroove

I kind of know what the story is, but I know it has nothing to do about a fight club. It's just called fight club.

05:50.27

yes

No, there is a fight club.

05:51.48

lostinthegroove

Oh, there is an actual fight club.

05:53.47

yes

Yeah.

05:54.51

lostinthegroove

Oh shit.

05:55.93

yes

Yeah, I think there's another book that's kind of like got a name like that, but this one, there's an actual fight club, but.

05:56.33

lostinthegroove

But is it called?

06:03.47

yes

um

06:04.62

lostinthegroove

Oh, Footloose. I think we're thinking of Footloose. Because that's kind of...

06:08.06

yes

No, I don't know, but I.

06:09.53

lostinthegroove

Now maybe it's not. I think we're too tired and too stoned.

06:13.54

yes

No, I'm good, I just think like. Um, I don't know. You don't remember what I was talking about at all.

06:21.54

lostinthegroove

No, I remember you're talking about fight club. You were trying to bring up a point.

06:23.61

yes

I know, but you don't remember what you were talking about before Fight Club.

06:25.82

lostinthegroove

Um,

06:27.75

yes

Cause it's quite easy for me to lose my train of thought.

06:32.28

lostinthegroove

we were talking about, uh, hold on, give me a second. I need, I need, okay.

06:44.60

lostinthegroove

We're talking about meditation and then we were talking,

06:46.14

yes

Yeah, so in Fight Club, he does meditation. Thank you. And um his meditation is guided.

06:51.83

lostinthegroove

I told you you need to give me a minute.

06:55.84

yes

And I mean, if I had just thought what the fucking episode is about, it's about meditation. So I could have remembered what I was talking about with Fight Club, too. I'm ridiculous. um And so they have him do meditation and he's like,

07:12.51

yes

they guide the meditation and he sees like a penguin so like they tell him to go like into like his happy place and his happy place is like an ice cave and he like goes into his happy place and he's supposed to like unlock like all this shit and like deal with all of his problems and like He's basically at like a meditation for people who are like dying.

07:35.14

yes

um And so they guide these meditations.

07:35.46

lostinthegroove

Right.

07:38.80

yes

When he goes in there, he sees this like penguin. And like each time that he goes into this like deep realm of his meditation, he sees this penguin. And then like eventually, one time, the penguin says, like slide.

07:55.34

yes

And it's just like so weird and random. And then he like wakes up out of it like, what the fuck? But like, it's funny to see like, because I think for some people, meditation is like a very like peaceful thing. But when you're dealing with a lot of like inner junk, meditation is quite frustrating. um And it's almost like you have to kind of like ease into it.

08:21.72

yes

like piece by piece, I remember like not wanting to spend any time alone with myself in my thoughts, which now is just like a disgusting idea.

08:30.64

lostinthegroove

It's like it's like trying to put on a pair of skinny jeans when you have big ass, you know, it's it's hard.

08:33.17

yes

Like I i hate that that's true.

08:44.54

lostinthegroove

It's good. Takes work.

08:45.86

yes

But I think the harder it is for you, that's more of an indication that that you should be doing it, right?

08:52.32

lostinthegroove

Yeah, you should definitely be wearing skinny jeans to show off that beautiful fat ass.

08:59.65

yes

I just think like if meditation, like if you start to meditate and it's really fucking hard, that probably is an indication that you need to do it. Like, I don't know.

09:11.00

lostinthegroove

Yeah.

09:12.73

yes

I, there's certain times in mentally deprived.

09:14.70

lostinthegroove

I'm so so mentally deprived. Yeah.

09:19.18

yes

Yeah. I don't, but I, I don't have much time to just like think, um, I think that's another good thing about meditation is that it's like a scheduled moment. And it's like, it can be kind of hard to like take a moment. So sometimes it's good to like schedule that moment.

09:38.69

lostinthegroove

Yeah, definitely find that like middle ground. You're like, OK, I'm going to focus on my breathing. I'm going to kind of like clean them. The thing like for me was I constantly went to hills and forest.

09:52.62

yes

Hmm.

09:52.84

lostinthegroove

You know, the cypress trees in late August.

09:59.16

lostinthegroove

And, you know, you can hear like the water kind of trickling down from the creeks, you know, as you kind of like walk and you can hear like the cracking of the dried up leaves and the branches and the twigs and the dirt and the rubble.

10:16.22

lostinthegroove

She kind of got into this like thing of like diving into the water, you know, and getting now doesn't work for me.

10:21.41

yes

No, you don't like that. I like water.

10:28.13

lostinthegroove

The water analogy thing just doesn't, I don't know. It's like, I'm not really, I mean, i I guess I am scared of water. I've never been inside of the ocean like like properly before.

10:39.00

yes

You are afraid of water?

10:40.86

lostinthegroove

Kind of.

10:44.23

lostinthegroove

A little.

10:47.63

lostinthegroove

What about, so you're not terrified of water at all. Like, if you were in a big ocean and you have like a pair of like, okay, but like if you,

10:52.81

yes

No, I don't want to do that. I mean, that's just, I don't belong there.

11:00.47

lostinthegroove

But would you like go into the ocean like if you had the equipment and stuff like would you like dive in?

11:04.50

yes

Yeah. Yeah.

11:06.53

lostinthegroove

Okay, but you wouldn't be like scared

11:07.25

yes

I don't know about, I mean, like the deep sea diving, I know a lot of dangers that are involved there. Like you get this thing where like, if you descend too quickly, you get like bubbles in your veins.

11:21.68

yes

Um, and my friend Cynthia, or used to be friend, she got this like, like air pocket in her sinuses from like coming up too fast. Um, and that kind of dug in, you know, but like, I feel like those fears are like kind of like more like logical fears than like, I'm afraid of water, which isn't, I'm not saying that's a logical, I'm just saying like, I know that.

11:47.71

yes

I act that way with certain things. And with the with water, it's more of a like, some things just aren't that safe. But I like water. like And I and think I'm a water sign, um my Scorpio.

12:04.40

lostinthegroove

Yeah, because you're you're November.

12:04.52

yes

And so I need water. Yeah.

12:08.41

lostinthegroove

Hold on, let me see what you're Scorpio.

12:10.31

yes

But I, I like water and I'm a lot like water. Like I, I, for the most part will follow the path, um, like given.

12:22.39

yes

And I will kind of like fill in the cracks yeah the Scorpio so I like water, I don't mom put me and my sisters in swimming classes right away because my mom, she almost drown when we were when she was a kid.

12:41.54

yes

um

12:42.60

lostinthegroove

And she didn't know how to swim.

12:42.61

yes

ah she just Not very well. Yeah. So when she had kids, she went to like the town, like public pool and she signed us up for swim classes.

12:54.21

lostinthegroove

But before, before public polls would give you E.

12:54.21

yes

So like public

12:57.42

lostinthegroove

coli. Yeah, go on.

13:00.15

yes

pools won't give you E. coli. What's going on?

13:01.99

lostinthegroove

I know, I know, I know. I'm just being, I'm just, I know, dude, but they don't got no money for chlorine.

13:04.37

yes

That's what chlorine is for.

13:10.38

yes

Yeah, they do. They have to put chlorine in there.

13:11.35

lostinthegroove

yeah they got plenty of money

13:12.94

yes

They wouldn't be open.

13:13.18

lostinthegroove

yeah um

13:14.48

yes

But I feel like it's is funny. But yeah, I would highly suggest like if you have children to like go to the public like pool and sign your kids up for swim lessons over the summer.

13:29.35

yes

That's what mom did with us and we had to go to swim lessons every summer. for like a couple a couple of weeks it wasn't the whole summer but it was definitely a few weeks and each summer they would teach us like a new skill like at first they just taught us like when you're like 80 bitty they taught you just to put your face down in the water and i remember being absolutely terrified like i i did not want to do it so if i hadn't been put in that swim class i would

14:02.95

yes

be totally terrified of water because that's how I naturally was like when I was born.

14:07.59

lostinthegroove

It's weird. It's weird because like my my grandmother taught me how to swim when I was five. It was kind of weird because like my sister lived in the in Brooklyn in the city and we would drive in and then like my mom kind of made it like ah like a ritual that like pretty much every single time we came into Brooklyn, see my sister, like I went straight to my grandma to get swimming lessons like practically every single time.

14:29.94

yes

Oh yeah, because your grandma would swim.

14:32.41

lostinthegroove

Yeah, and my grandma was like the amazing swim instructor. She would like, I remember like she'd put me on like on the side and she's like, I want you to let go. Like I'm terrified because like, I don't know, it's like, you're okay. And I'm five and I got floaties on. So I'm not going anywhere. here yeah um But I don't know what I don't know. I think maybe it's just like,

15:01.90

lostinthegroove

A mixture of just watching too many like Titanic and Poseidon's, um I think Poseidon's Adventure. um yeah I don't know, it's just like that fear of the unknown.

15:13.70

yes

I don't know. Yeah, I get it. I think the ocean is creepy when you can't see to the bottom of it. I just i grew up swimming in a lot of like swimming pools, like ah hotel swimming pools, um different swimming pools.

15:31.03

lostinthegroove

The ocean is not your hotel swimming pool, like...

15:34.08

yes

Yeah, so I would say like i I grew up swimming in like public pools, friends pools, ah different places like that school. And so I feel like I i swam sometimes in lakes. We don't have any alligators. We don't have any sharks. like

15:56.08

lostinthegroove

oh people still go into the water even though they're gators.

15:56.36

yes

ah really

15:59.60

yes

Yeah, I know. I'm just saying like ah that might be why I'm not as afraid, but like I know that, yeah, I was afraid to put my face in the water when I was little, but then once they taught me like the basics of swimming, like I took off my own floaties and just started like swimming on my own without it.

16:23.28

yes

like ah ah Once I got over like the initial like kind of like spookiness of having my face in the water, I was an absolutely incredible swimmer.

16:34.19

yes

like a It's a skill of mine that I i can swim. I'm kind of coordinated with like all all parts of my body at once.

16:44.36

lostinthegroove

Yeah, being able to do like a butterfly lap.

16:44.59

yes

I really enjoy I could, uh, not anymore. I'd probably kill me. I probably pulled muscle or something, but I've, it's a lot of work.

16:52.02

lostinthegroove

I've done it. It's ooh, it's hard.

16:55.33

yes

Um, the butterfly thing, it's crazy. But what I was going to say is that I think I genuinely like the way that the water feels on my body. Like when swimming in it.

17:09.46

yes

and like splashing like I and like going under the water with my head and like feeling myself like underneath like the the layer like I when I was a kid I used to love to wear my goggles and like swim on my back right underneath the water and like watch like the outside through like the water, the layer of the water.

17:36.96

yes

Like I think I really liked like the way that the light would come through the water and like different stuff like that. Like as a kid, I did find it and still do find it really therapeutic to like move around in it and like, you know, like run your hand through it and like create like the, like, I like it.

17:55.72

lostinthegroove

do you you is do you know it' like It's kind of wild because it's kind of like almost learning the perspective of the fish you know in the ocean when they're like when they're seeing us. you know And they're like, what's that? Why is it coming closer?

18:15.35

lostinthegroove

And it's just dead, you know? Because you was just came with like a fucking spike thing and just killed it and then i had it for dinner. And then it was delicious. But anyway, like the other point I wanted to get to was like the fact that isn't it so wild that we as humans have lived around bodies of water for thousands of years and was completely free?

18:37.89

lostinthegroove

And then now people charge like 50 fucking thousand dollars for a bloody pool. When that was like a natural thing. Like people just had lakes and pools for thousands of years and it was like free. But now it's like 50,000.

18:52.87

yes

Yeah, I mean the lakes now are like owned by like the state.

18:54.42

lostinthegroove

e

18:58.45

lostinthegroove

Monsanto and BlackRock and Proctor and Gamble.

19:01.04

yes

I feel you. Yeah, none of the lakes belong to anyone anymore.

19:06.14

lostinthegroove

No. They have to own them because we're also going to dump all our garbage and waste biomas and and human sex trafficking.

19:07.79

yes

um

19:18.85

lostinthegroove

Yeah.

19:19.95

yes

I always think of the Pocahontas movie. um The Earth is not a thing that you can claim. I also go back to my history course where they spoke about how when the first Native American saw the first fence that was put down in America and they just like scoffed at it.

19:47.98

yes

like They were like, what the fuck is this? like

19:51.05

lostinthegroove

Why do you need offense?

19:52.56

yes

Yeah, they they like saw like the white man building a fence and they were like, what the fuck? And they just like walked right through it. They were like, what is that? like it's a And like they like did it to like block off like cattle and stuff. And like the light the Native Americans were like, so a that's our sheep too, because the fence is not a thing. like Just because you put some fence there doesn't mean that I acknowledge it.

20:22.65

yes

I just think there's a lot of like weird brainwashing that happens in like the European like culture that was brought over where it's like,

20:31.75

lostinthegroove

it

20:34.55

yes

They just did they start like doing this like gaslighting where it's like I can put fences up and clean things and it's like no you can't and they just do it and it's like they expect everyone else to acknowledge it like it's so weird.

20:42.96

lostinthegroove

it

20:48.12

lostinthegroove

It's really wild because when you take um like, particularly like the, um not Cherokee, the ah Comanche, the Comanche that are out in Texas, like believe it or not, the only reason why that Texas kind of exists today is because of the Texas Rangers.

21:05.35

lostinthegroove

But it's because the Comanches, they realized that bow and arrows were no longer practical. So they started stealing guns and they learned how to shoot with guns. And then they learned how to shoot with guns on horses.

21:21.56

yes

Yeah, it's pretty dangerous.

21:23.26

lostinthegroove

Yeah, they were ruthless. And like, I hate to say this, kudos to the Comanches.

21:30.22

yes

Oh yeah, they put up a good fight, yeah.

21:30.25

lostinthegroove

Like, they were. Oh, they were motherfuckers. Like the shit like the stories that people read, like the command shoes were the type like they were just coming skin and scalp an entire village in one night.

21:42.94

yes

Yeah, that scalping shit's pretty serious.

21:46.18

lostinthegroove

Oh, yeah.

21:48.63

yes

Yeah, I don't know. It makes me wonder if there was like a specific like spirituality like behind like, you know, like people's like hair, or if it's just it really shows like domination, like how you're like kind of like grabbing somebody

21:50.62

lostinthegroove

But then.

22:05.17

lostinthegroove

Well, the the wild thing is like the Comanches were like known to be in like a wild tribe. Like they had human sacrifices. They were known to get into cannibal rituals like they were.

22:18.33

yes

Good lord.

22:19.36

lostinthegroove

Yeah, they were wild people. you Wild like the there's.

22:23.68

yes

I don't know. Yeah, it's pretty wild. um But i I mean, like, ah go on. Yeah, you got something to say.

22:30.22

lostinthegroove

no no no no but you no no no you yeah ah

22:36.29

yes

I don't know.

22:36.33

lostinthegroove

well um

22:37.05

yes

I feel like.

22:41.51

yes

the Native Americans maybe wouldn't have had as much use or necessity or drawn to something like meditation because they're not as removed from their natural state.

22:58.83

lostinthegroove

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, you, you. I think it depends on the tribe though, because there are definitely tribes that are more spiritual than others.

23:00.17

yes

They.

23:04.48

yes

Yeah.

23:06.53

lostinthegroove

um

23:06.55

yes

Well, no, what I'm saying is that like I feel like I feel like meditation is more important the more removed we are from nature. um And so I feel like it would be good to meditate because we're very removed from nature and we're over simulated. But I mean, like with Native Americans, I have absolutely no idea what what type of challenges there might have been like a different type of meditation. I mean, I'm sure like there were lots of different coping mechanisms that were carried down through different ah types of people, you know.

23:46.84

lostinthegroove

Yeah, for sure. I mean, like, take things like even Native American instruments or even like a powwow, you know, it's kind of of like that kind of example where you're able to get yourself in almost a meditative state, you know, being able to connect to nature, connecting to the spirits, to the ancestors, you know,

24:07.45

yes

I think that there is a lot there if you take time to kind of like listen to your inner self, just like be alone with yourself. i so I read a book and it's now been made into like a really cheesy movie, but before it was a cheesy movie, it was a very heartfelt book and it was called Eat Pray Love and it's a cheesy ass movie, but the book itself, very good.

24:30.11

lostinthegroove

Oh, that moon.

24:36.29

yes

um And so this woman, before it was a cheesy movie, this woman wrote a book. um and she went to india and she stayed in an ashram which is just like a i don't know like a monk place where you go and you stay monastery yeah so she went she stayed there um and she meditated like a lot and she was meditating a lot before she went there and that's it kind of like led to her going there um but yeah she lived there for a while and she studied and stuff and she meditated like crazy but

24:44.07

lostinthegroove

Monastery.

24:52.18

lostinthegroove

monastery

25:11.59

yes

They left all that cool meditation crap kind of out of the movie, like they showed it like a little bit, but not really as much as like, I don't know, but it was fascinating when I read the book and um she talks a lot about like her journey with meditation. And when I think about meditation, I always think about reading that book because it was kind of like my first introduction to it and listening to somebody's like inner thoughts um that came up during meditation and like were some it's cool like with a book you can kind of like find out like the inner details of how somebody feels about something without like having to like really talk directly to them so

25:49.81

lostinthegroove

Yeah.

25:53.95

lostinthegroove

You get into the inner crocs, basically.

25:56.36

yes

she talked about her journey with meditation. She talked about like when she, you know, reached what I would say was like a peak. Um, and she said that she had like a, like a, like she meditated so hard that she had like a, a blue electric light, like shoot up her spine.

26:22.98

yes

Um, and there's no blue electric light.

26:23.80

lostinthegroove

but Specifically blue.

26:26.74

yes

Yeah, blue.

26:28.32

lostinthegroove

to But there is no blue electric light.

26:31.81

yes

You don't think there is. It's like a white blue, you know, like, like the color of a flame, you know, when flame is like blue flame, like it's like blue, white.

26:35.80

lostinthegroove

Like almost like a lightsaber. Okay.

26:42.95

yes

It's like that, like an electric. I've seen the electricity before myself and we are truly electric.

26:55.46

yes

like you and I, there's an electric charge in your heart. There's an electric charge in every part of you because there's ions in you.

27:05.74

lostinthegroove

Technically we are organic machines if you think about it Yeah, like very much like just how a car has like a computer we have a brain just like a car has a Well, I'm trying to like think of what a heart would be Charging system.

27:10.08

yes

Nay. Well, you're, yeah, you're organic, but there is an electrical charge in you.

27:28.79

yes

and They got their ah engine.

27:30.08

lostinthegroove

Yeah the charging system

27:31.28

yes

I mean, they're a little like, I don't know, but I would, you know, oil is my blood. And so people always said about the cars.

27:38.25

lostinthegroove

Yeah.

27:41.07

yes

But I feel like with with meditation, it sounds like she basically kind of had like some type of meditation orgasm.

27:51.84

lostinthegroove

Oh, I'm sorry. Yeah, the engine is the heart of the so ah fucking idiot.

27:55.42

yes

I think I said that, yeah.

27:56.06

lostinthegroove

Yeah, the engine is the heart of the...

27:57.98

yes

And you were like, yeah.

27:58.23

lostinthegroove

I mean, it's cool.

27:58.94

yes

And I was like, oil is my blood.

27:59.39

lostinthegroove

I should know if this shit. Yeah. Ah, but it's true, though. It really like takes you to that. I don't know. Like we we've kind of like gone through that heebie geebee, you know, bullshit thing of like maybe there is some truth to this. It kind of has to be.

28:19.71

yes

I mean, with my meditation, I feel like nowadays I pray. um And I pray for answers.

28:29.91

lostinthegroove

Eat, pray, love.

28:35.43

yes

um And I pray for like direction and stuff like that. I feel like I I should probably meditate. I went to that one meditation. I really liked it. I feel like it's hard to get myself into a place where I feel safe enough.

28:54.52

yes

to journey away, to meditate, if you know what I mean.

28:58.44

lostinthegroove

Mm hmm.

28:58.80

yes

What do you what do you think holds you back?

29:03.03

lostinthegroove

Stress, anxiety, depression.

29:07.33

yes

Yeah.

29:09.52

lostinthegroove

Yeah, all the things that Monsanto wants you to get in your SSRIs.

29:19.20

lostinthegroove

So. Not going to do pills, even though that the colors are really cool and they come in really cool bottles.

29:23.60

yes

Yeah.

29:29.04

lostinthegroove

Right, they do. Bottles are really cool, right? It's kind of awesome that pills have like their own like bottles, you know, and like different pharmacies have different colors. There's some orange, you know, go to Publix in it.

29:39.99

yes

You want to collect the bottles? Fuck.

29:41.86

lostinthegroove

Uh-huh. You know, Publix is green.

29:46.50

lostinthegroove

I think Publix is her.

29:46.77

yes

They used to be Kmart. You get these really cool ones.

29:52.52

lostinthegroove

Red ones.

29:53.79

yes

Yeah. Do you remember those red ones?

29:54.70

lostinthegroove

The red one. Yeah, I remember the red ones.

29:56.00

yes

Yeah. They were like upside down.

29:57.62

lostinthegroove

Uh-huh.

29:57.90

yes

They're like, yeah, cool.

30:00.10

lostinthegroove

They were really cool. Oh my god.

30:03.58

yes

Yeah.

30:03.61

lostinthegroove

e e They don't do that stuff anymore.

30:04.29

yes

Kmart used to do this thing where they would like give you a gift card if you transferred your prescription to the Kmart pharmacy. And it was like a $20 gift card.

30:12.96

lostinthegroove

Yeah, they used to do that thing because it was like a really big.

30:16.87

yes

So like we would purposely get our prescriptions sent to not Kmart so that we could get them transferred to the Kmart and get the gift card.

30:28.32

lostinthegroove

And they never kept track, so the thing is, you could just keep on doing this as many times as you'd like.

30:30.27

yes

No.

30:34.99

lostinthegroove

So you just go to a different doctor and you'd be like, give them the wrong pharmacy on purpose.

30:35.11

yes

Yeah.

30:41.43

lostinthegroove

he a

30:42.80

yes

And then transfer. It was kind of a hassle, but 20 bucks was a lot of money back then.

30:47.71

lostinthegroove

Yeah, 20 bucks would buy you like four did like a week's worth of dinners.

30:48.73

yes

I don't know.

30:52.76

yes

Did they close all the K-Marts?

30:55.05

lostinthegroove

I think there there was one that I believe was in Miami, but I think that one went out of business.

31:00.80

yes

Yeah.

31:02.59

lostinthegroove

And now there's just one left in New York. There's just one Kmart.

31:05.30

yes

That's it. There used to be a Kmart in L.A.

31:10.16

lostinthegroove

A Kmart or the Kmart?

31:13.69

yes

What, like the Kmart, like the the first one, it says it says that there's a Kmart on on Hickman Road in Iowa here.

31:15.08

lostinthegroove

a yeah The first.

31:25.99

yes

It says that we have a Kmart.

31:30.20

lostinthegroove

It must not be open though.

31:32.09

yes

It can't be, that thing's been long closed.

31:36.10

lostinthegroove

A long time ago.

31:37.52

yes

Oh yeah, I feel like that K-Mart closed like 20 years ago. I'm looking at a picture of it right now and I'm so confused. Yeah, that is not a K-Mart.

31:49.10

lostinthegroove

What is it?

31:50.61

yes

No, I feel like it's just funny that they still like pointed out as the K-Mart, but it's it's a storage place now.

31:59.97

lostinthegroove

but it's still labeled.

32:01.25

yes

But like it's, yeah, when I Google it, it says like the Kmart on Hickman road. And it's like, that hasn't been a Kmart in like 20 years, but yeah.

32:06.93

lostinthegroove

No, but it's storage. Bro, it's Kmart storage now.

32:13.53

yes

Walmart really took over. You know, who else has got it going on? Burlington coat factory.

32:18.90

lostinthegroove

They suck.

32:20.91

yes

You think why, why are they suck?

32:21.16

lostinthegroove

They suck. I don't know, it's kind of like, like Ross for less too. It's just they just have crappy, just crappy, crappy stuff.

32:29.24

yes

ah ah Ross, yeah, Ross is a tough one.

32:30.59

lostinthegroove

You know, but like, when you go to TJ Maxx, it's like, you usually will spot a really good deal. Like, I'm not gonna lie, I've probably got better deals in TJ Maxx.

32:43.27

yes

I was at Nordstrom Rack and shit was so expensive. I was like, what the fuck?

32:48.23

lostinthegroove

I, I've done really,

32:48.97

yes

I'm looking at a $100 t-shirt.

32:52.76

lostinthegroove

I've done really well in Nordstrom Rack. So it turns out there's a secret rack within Nordstrom Rack. It's kind of like in the middle of the store, throwing this out to people where like 90% of this stuff is like 70% off.

33:05.06

yes

Yeah, I saw it.

33:07.09

lostinthegroove

But you got to go there the right days. When do you think is the right day to go?

33:14.87

yes

Sunday or Monday.

33:16.58

lostinthegroove

Mm hmm. particularly like if you so this is wild. I did not know this is a thing. So it turns out if you go there on a Sunday, when people are in church, it's kind of the best. It's nobody's there.

33:33.63

yes

I can't believe that people go to church that much, that like it actually makes a difference.

33:39.90

lostinthegroove

It does, because they get usually a shipments on Fridays and Saturdays, usually at the end of the week.

33:40.11

yes

it's

33:46.58

lostinthegroove

And you depending on like what they can get in, they can get stuff that are like originally $300, and you can buy it for $45.

33:58.41

lostinthegroove

Yeah.

33:59.94

yes

money

34:01.27

lostinthegroove

Money, money, money. So, where's your honey?

34:03.54

yes

Well, that's why free meditation is a good idea because it's free.

34:08.77

lostinthegroove

in human world. Oh my god. Yeah, definitely. Or you could be a person who just goes to the restaurant rack and just looks and doesn't buy a thing.

34:18.09

yes

I like to just look and be like, you know what? I'm going to not buy that.

34:24.05

lostinthegroove

What was that movie? I think it was with Sandra Bullock where she like goes into a store and then like grabs a bunch of items and says I want to return it. There's never like she claims she doesn't ever see and she puts

34:36.81

yes

Heartbreakers.

34:38.85

lostinthegroove

That was wild. Like there's no way anybody could pull that off.

34:43.90

yes

Right? Isn't that without what the movie is?

34:47.87

lostinthegroove

Yeah.

34:48.33

yes

It's ah her and some other chick.

34:53.27

lostinthegroove

Some other sick.

34:56.04

yes

But man, I don't know.

34:56.69

lostinthegroove

What's it?

34:58.12

yes

I don't know if that's that movie or not.

35:00.43

lostinthegroove

What's it called?

35:01.98

yes

I thought it was Heartbreakers, but it's not.

35:04.59

lostinthegroove

You sure?

35:07.57

yes

If you looked up Sandra Bullock movies.

35:11.14

lostinthegroove

There's so many Sombra Bullock movies. I feel like she's been in everything except sex.

35:21.89

lostinthegroove

um

35:25.05

yes

Sandra Bullock movies.

35:26.29

lostinthegroove

Um...

35:26.49

yes

Holy shit.

35:26.87

lostinthegroove

I know, it's a long list.

35:28.12

yes

Hey, I really like, uh, I like Practical Magic. It's a good movie.

35:34.01

lostinthegroove

Um... It's not the proposal.

35:40.10

yes

I can't remember which one it is, but it's not the one I was thinking of.

35:43.82

lostinthegroove

Is it Ocean's 8 maybe?

35:46.23

yes

Nah.

35:47.15

lostinthegroove

I think it might have been Ocean's 8.

35:48.97

yes

Really?

35:50.17

lostinthegroove

I think so.

35:51.57

yes

Huh, I guess yeah.

35:52.54

lostinthegroove

I think, yeah, I think so.

35:53.93

yes

Yeah.

35:55.17

lostinthegroove

Yeah, okay. Yeah, because like the Ocean's 8 was kind of like Ocean's 11 and like, they're all criminals, you know, and they like all got superpowers. I'm assuming like her superpowers, like she's really good at like stealing things.

36:08.25

yes

Mm, that's really cool. It wasn't the heat, was it?

36:14.17

lostinthegroove

I don't think so.

36:15.27

yes

That looks good, though.

36:15.87

lostinthegroove

I mean, she she was in the heat.

36:20.95

yes

Well, now I'm just looking at like movies that Sandra Bullock was in.

36:21.30

lostinthegroove

Really?

36:26.60

yes

um Not heat, the heat.

36:27.16

lostinthegroove

Are you sure that she was in heat because I'm checking.

36:32.24

lostinthegroove

The heat.

36:32.60

yes

It's like some buddy cop movie where she's holding a gun.

36:36.42

lostinthegroove

Somebody.

36:39.72

yes

Meemob.

36:39.88

lostinthegroove

Somebody.

36:41.81

yes

Yeah, she's in a lot of movies.

36:43.34

lostinthegroove

She is in a lot of mood. Oh my God. And she's with Melissa McCarthy.

36:46.84

yes

Uh... Yeah... Forces of Nature was a really popular movie when I was young.

36:49.24

lostinthegroove

Oh, gee.

36:52.56

lostinthegroove

Oh, we'll wrap this up.

36:57.39

yes

I liked Gravity.

36:59.50

lostinthegroove

Gravitate towards meditation and mind and soul and find your chakra. Wow, this movie is wild.

37:07.09

yes

Oh, fuck.

37:07.56

lostinthegroove

Does does Melissa McCarthy have a gun?

37:11.67

yes

Looks like it.

37:12.64

lostinthegroove

I want to watch this movie now. I want to relax and watch this movie. I think I'm going to do that.

37:17.58

yes

Heat, you're gonna watch:

37:19.83

lostinthegroove

yeah yeah with me This looks funny as hell.

37:22.73

yes

An uptight FBI special agent is paired with a foul-mouthed Boston cop to take down a ruthless drug lord.

37:36.09

lostinthegroove

This looks so funny.

37:36.51

yes

What did it get on Rotten Tomatoes? It got 65%.

37:38.42

lostinthegroove

if Okay, so that means it's amazing.

37:42.84

yes

It well means it's decent.

37:44.66

lostinthegroove

No, it's amazing. See, the thing about Rotten Tomatoes, the lower the rating, that tells you how good the movie is.

37:51.98

yes

Sometimes.

37:53.33

lostinthegroove

Most of the time.

37:55.10

yes

But yeah, bird box is terrifying.

37:56.43

lostinthegroove

90. Yeah. Well, they came out a recent um movie about a serial killer, the one on the dating show in the 70s.

38:07.15

lostinthegroove

It's called like The One Hour or something, where like they recreated it. But in like movie TV show way.

38:21.13

yes

What is it?

38:22.60

lostinthegroove

And a woman of the hour or something.

38:30.01

yes

I remember when Sandra Bullock like announced that she had had plastic surgery and everybody like made like a huge deal out of it. And then nowadays, nobody gives a fuck if anybody's had any plastic surgery.

38:41.00

lostinthegroove

Has she had plastic surgery?

38:43.78

yes

Absolutely. She said she's had all the plastic surgery you can get.

38:48.44

lostinthegroove

She looks great.

38:49.92

yes

Yeah, she also kind of looks like Celine Dion in this one photo.

38:55.90

lostinthegroove

Let me see.

39:01.74

lostinthegroove

Oh, her name just kind of is like.

39:04.23

yes

A weird name.

39:05.85

lostinthegroove

Yeah, it's like I'm Sandra Bullock.

39:08.79

yes

Black, what is that block?

39:10.60

lostinthegroove

I block.

39:14.38

lostinthegroove

I mean, we can ask her, but I don't think she ever is going to get on our podcast.

39:19.73

yes

Oh, you know, I really liked that one movie that she did with What's His Face. um Let me find it. It was recent. It was like a safari movie.

39:29.99

lostinthegroove

Oh yeah, she's def... Oh yeah, she's definitely had plastic surgery done. She's had rhinoplasty.

39:34.45

yes

Yeah, The Lost City.

39:35.80

lostinthegroove

Like her nose...

39:37.84

yes

I love The Lost City. I thought it was pretty funny.

39:40.95

lostinthegroove

Her nose looks very fake.

39:43.55

yes

Mostly because I like Tater Channing's.

39:46.16

lostinthegroove

What is with all these celebrities and getting terrible nose jobs?

39:50.40

yes

What? You think her nose job looks bad?

39:52.58

lostinthegroove

It's okay. It's all right.

39:55.29

yes

Did you look at the picture?

39:55.48

lostinthegroove

Like...

39:58.17

lostinthegroove

Um... Oh, okay.

40:01.58

yes

Yeah, her nose could look better.

40:02.03

lostinthegroove

Let me see. Yeah, like she had a pretty, she had a very pretty nose.

40:09.77

lostinthegroove

Oh, wow. Oh, oh, oh, wow. She's very, she's very pretty. Like she, there's something like

40:19.14

yes

Yeah. There is something special about her. Like she's unlike anybody else, but there's a lot of women that I've met that have like that, that type of quality where it's like, whoa, but it's interesting.

40:31.67

lostinthegroove

Yeah, she had a bigger nose. She had it like narrow. She had her nose narrowed.

40:37.91

yes

Like you can tell she has always kind of like carried a little bit of like an insecurity, like for being like a beautiful woman, she's always been kind of like, not as attractive as she should be.

40:51.41

yes

Like in her own opinion, you know, I thought she's 57, but she could be over 60.

40:52.64

lostinthegroove

Is she 60? Is she really 60? Hold on, let me see. No way, she looks great for her age though.

41:04.32

lostinthegroove

See, when you have that kind of, when you have that kind of money, money, honey, you can like keep yourself looking young forever.

41:04.34

yes

Yeah. She had all that work done.

41:13.27

yes

She is 60. Yeah.

41:15.10

lostinthegroove

Wow.

41:18.17

lostinthegroove

I would now, wow.

41:18.50

yes

d's highest paid actress from:

41:25.38

lostinthegroove

Until Reese Witherspoon took her place.

41:29.90

yes

Reese Witherspoon was like fucking like hot shit.

41:33.11

lostinthegroove

She is currently worth an estimated I think like 584 million dollars.

41:40.04

yes

Who's the hottest actress now?

41:44.26

lostinthegroove

Like the hottest?

41:45.66

yes

No, I mean just like the top paid actress.

41:48.44

lostinthegroove

Still Reese Witherspoon.

41:50.49

yes

Still?

41:51.55

lostinthegroove

Still Reese Witherspoon.

41:52.34

yes

Damn, she hasn't been in anything either.

I think just because she like owns companies and things and like production. Um, that's kind of how also Jerry Sarnfield made a lot of his money, was writing and producing.

42:09.13

yes

Yeah.

42:09.64

lostinthegroove

Um, Ben Steeler was the same thing as well. Like he predominantly did the same thing.

42:14.42

yes

Mm, Margot Robbie. Margot Robbie takes the the cake for highest paid actress.

42:23.32

lostinthegroove

712 million, I believe, somewhere around there.

42:26.48

yes

And then 12.5.

42:32.35

lostinthegroove

Million?

42:33.21

yes

She was paid 12.5 million for her role as Barbie.

42:37.73

lostinthegroove

But she's, is she worth over $700 million? dollars

42:41.38

yes

Doesn't say how much she's worse. It says that Sandra Bullock comes in second. Then Zendaya, then Millie Brown,

42:52.27

lostinthegroove

That doesn't make any sense because Reese Witherspoon, if I'm not mistaken, was worth like almost close to $500 million. dollars

42:58.33

yes

Angelina Jolie, then Scarlett Johansson, but I don't think she's broke.

43:01.95

lostinthegroove

Angela Gillies pretty much broke at this point. Like I don't even know how she's making any money.

43:09.51

yes

I think she's doing quite fine.

43:10.29

lostinthegroove

When we ah okay, honey, when we say broke, we're talking about rich broke. Rich broke means like you're in the 10s, you're not in the hundreds anymore.

43:16.78

yes

Dude, this says that she's worth, she's worth $48 million. dollars

43:23.34

lostinthegroove

Who?

43:24.40

yes

Uh, what am I looking at here? Startup Insider. I don't know what that is, but that's my, my reference point here.

43:38.52

lostinthegroove

ah Reese Witherspoon is ah worth $440 million. dollars Oh, okay.

43:46.73

yes

Well, that's different than like highest paid actors. We're talking about two different things because yeah, she does. She owns a bunch of like production companies. She owns, I think it's called like Marigold.

43:59.55

yes

Um, and that's like a big, she's got her own channel going.

44:03.11

lostinthegroove

I got it. Hold on.

44:04.59

yes

I know people who worked for her.

44:07.84

lostinthegroove

I'm getting a completely different answer. This is the highest paid actress is Ada Heckerberg.

44:16.48

yes

Sounds cool.

44:17.72

lostinthegroove

I don't even know who this person is.

44:19.70

yes

Yeah, I know, it's not weird.

44:19.94

lostinthegroove

And it's like a professional football. Oh my God.

44:25.22

lostinthegroove

Actress.

44:29.49

lostinthegroove

Why is it giving me like sports people? Like this is just wild.

44:37.36

lostinthegroove

Uh, Christian Sinclair. These are just soccer players. I don't know how like they consider these actresses. You know what I mean?

44:58.03

lostinthegroove

Okay, this is just an absolutely wild work list.

45:00.18

yes

Maybe it wasn't Marigold. It was like the name of like some flower, like like Chrysanthemum or like some random ass like flower was the name of her production company or channel.

45:18.88

lostinthegroove

or something. and I know what you're getting at.

45:22.24

yes

But I got so close to meeting Reese Witherspoon.

45:22.49

lostinthegroove

the

45:25.84

yes

Like I got like, I was like inches away. Like there were like people that were like, I did make up for her ex-husband ex Yeah.

45:35.62

lostinthegroove

X.

45:39.83

yes

You're right.

45:40.22

lostinthegroove

Sonder Bullock.

45:40.73

yes

Looks like she got divorced again.

45:42.64

lostinthegroove

Sonder Bullock is worth like an estimate 250 million.

45:47.41

yes

Oh shit. Reese Witherspoon is born on March 22nd.

45:51.63

lostinthegroove

Is that bad?

45:52.71

yes

That's my ex's birthday. I just think it's a psycho birthday. I've met a couple other people born on that birthday. I guess it could be okay sometimes, but it's like, it's kind of crazy that it, yeah.

46:03.25

lostinthegroove

I guess.

46:06.31

lostinthegroove

Yeah, yeah.

46:19.75

lostinthegroove

get the last spoonful of the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup flavored vanilla ice cream with the peanut butter swirls.

46:28.37

yes

Her production company is just called Hello Sunshine, which yeah, that sounds about right. I kind of remember that.

46:36.01

lostinthegroove

It sounds boring as hell, but it you don't want kudos to her having coming up with a really original name for her company.

46:47.06

yes

Hello Sunshine aims to broaden perspectives and empower women by giving them

46:48.47

lostinthegroove

Hello, such a

Lost in the Groove is my space to explore the real, raw, and unexpected. I started this podcast because I was tired of feeling like nothing ever changes. My therapist once suggested, I write letters to the government to express my frustrations. Then I thought, "Why not create a podcast instead?" Here, I can talk about what I want, with whoever I want, no matter their beliefs. For me, it's about having honest conversations,. Breaking down walls, and getting people to think beyond the surface.

I grew up in a blue-collar family in the suburbs outside New York City, raised as an Orthodox Jew. Leaving the religious community in 2017 was a pivotal moment for me. It allowed me to embrace my identity as an artist, and chart my own path. Who I am today, and what this podcast represents, is deeply tied to my journey. Leaving a community that was a cult; still is. Discovering authenticity, creativity, and independence in myself.

I’m a car enthusiast, an artist, and someone who thrives on creative expression. From old-school rap, and psychedelic rock. To vintage muscle cars and European classics. I’m all about the things that inspire passion.
My co-host, Karissa Andrews, joins me for American Groove. Our segment on stoner culture, and life’s weirder twists. She’s an incredibly talented makeup artist, aesthetician, and candle maker. She brings a spice, pizazz, and realness to every conversation.

This podcast isn’t about chasing fame or conforming to trends, it’s about the experience. I want listener, whether they’re driving home, cooking, or just unwinding. To feel like they’re part of something real. Lost in the Groove is my way of staying true to myself, while connecting with others. learning, and having fun along the way.
